Information for Foreign Visitors to Argonne National Lab
Argonne is firmly committed to fulfilling U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) directives and requirements regarding foreign visits and assignments. Unclassified foreign visits and assignments are to be used to advance laboratory program objectives consistent with U.S. foreign and nonproliferation policy, international energy policy and agreements, and national security policy and objectives. Protection of counterintelligence interests, security interests, and sensitive subject information and technologies in a manner consistent with program requirements, including compliance with export laws and regulations, is the responsibility of all employees. Under no circumstances should foreign nationals be allowed on any Argonne site without the appropriate reviews and approvals. Sponsorship of laboratory operations/functions by DOE does not mitigate, supersede, or remove the laboratory's responsibility to adhere to the policy.
If you are not a U.S. citizen, please be sure to complete the secure foreign national questionaire form as soon as possible. (This requirement includes permanent residents).
Please note that we need at least 14-30 business days to process your request. No foreign national will be allowed access to any Argonne facility prior to approval by the Security and Counterintelligence Division.
All visitors are required to present photo identification, such as a driver's license or passport, to receive a gate pass. In addition, if your visa is F-1 or J-1, your I-20 must also be produced upon ANL arrival, as well as DS2019.
