From michelangelo.mangano@cern.ch Sat Jan 5 12:04:15 2008 Date: Sat, 05 Jan 2008 19:04:04 +0100 From: michelangelo mangano To: R.Keith Ellis Cc: rohini@cts.iisc.ernet.in Subject: Re: Request for advice on program hi keith, I see that in your latest programme you already have a good list of potential theory speakers. I reproduce it here with my comments, and possible alternative suggestions: 5/27/08 Tuesday Morning : Top Physics 10.15-10.45 Top quark: Theory (Agashe, Willenbrock,Orr,Lillie,Ross D.A.)) MLM> I think that Scott would be the best speaker 5/27/08 Tuesday Afternoon: Standard model (QCD /Electroweak) 2.30-3.00 Theory of W/Z + jets (or hf) , parton showers, matching, NLO (Campbell) MLM> If you want someone with more experience in issues like matching and showers, I suggest you invite Frank Krauss 5/28/08 Wednesday morning: QCD and partons 9.30 -10.00 Theory: QCD for the LHC (Webber, Frixione, Mangano, Nason, Skands) MLM> Skands could be a good 1st choice, to stay on the young side 5/29/08 Thursday Morning: B Physics 8.30-9.00 Theory: B physics theory (Becher, Masiero, Nierste, Ligeti, Bigi, Silvestrini) MLM> SIlvestrini would be my first choice. he has a very good overall picture, including the BSM aspects. 5/29/08 Thursday Afternoon: New Phenomena 2.30-3.00 Theoretical review: Compelling beyond the SM models (Arkani-Hamed, Csaki, Pomarol, Ratazzi, Fox, Dobrescu) MLM> Nima would be great, but it's risky to invite him, he could show up 5' before (or after!) the start of his talk .... For a young emerging star, I would propose Roberto Contino. Rattazzi and Pomarol are very deep, but sometimes (often!) a bit hard to understand for experimentalists. Dobrescu would do a great job, as would Csaki. And dont forget M.Strassler. 4.30-5.00 Theory: Status of constraints on SUSY (Wagner, Weiglein, Heinemeyer, Dreiner) MLM> Heinemeyer, to stay young 2.00-2.30 Theory:Higgs boson production and decay (Oleari, Spira, Zeppenfeld, Bozzi, Worek) MLM> If you don't have too many italians already, Oleari would be an excellent choice. Else, if don't have too many germans already, Zeppenfeld. 3.00-3.30 Theory: Higgs boson beyond the SM (Wagner,Weiglein,Heinemeyer) MLM> Carlos, if Sven gets the talk on SUSY constraints. 5/31/08 Saturday morning Machine Status, Summaries and Prospects 9.00--9.45 Status of LHC Machine and plans for sLHC (Scandale, Rossi) MLM> Rossi is an excellent speaker, but is mostly a hardware man. Scandale is more knowledgeable about the overall programme, including commissioning of the beams etc. Theory Summary (if you keep it on the agenda): if would be nice to force someone of high stature, who would not otherwise attend and who does not have interests too focused on any given topic of the conference, take this responsibility. E.g. Michael Peskin, who I am sure is interested in getting more engaged in hadron collider physics. Or people like Grinstein, Kaplan. Or J.Lykken, if you allow local people. From our community, I think that Bryan Webber would be a very good choice; workwise he is focused on qcd, but has a broad perspective. bests, mlm
