Please find below some comments on the proposed programme. In general I like the structure of the current proposal which is well balanced and covers most of the relevant topics. More detailed comments: Tuesday Morning: -------------------------- Like others I like the startup with "Top" as an exciting physics topic where we have many nice results from the Tevatron. However, I support the proposal of Mike Tuts to have a short opening talk (15 - 20 min) including welcome and a short discussion on the Tevatron status, performance and plans (2010 ?) of the Collider. I would not include any future FNAL plans beyond the collider (project X). Speakers could of course be Pier Odone or Young-Kee. So far the TeV machine status is nowhere discussed. To accomodate such a talk, you could foresee to start at 10 am or drop the anyway short coffee break. SM session ----------------- I agree with others that the second talk (WZ+jets at the Tevatron) should be an exp. talk and this talk must include light flavours. W+Z analyses at the Tevatron) I like and support the proposal of Michelangelo Mangano. The LHC talk should indeed focus on the exp. determination of important SM backgrounds which is badly needed to enter discovery physics) In addition I find that -compared to previous HCP conferences- some important aspects on particle ID are missing in the present schedule. Much work has been invested by the LHC collaborations over the past years to develop b-tagging, tau tagging etc.... for the LHC. I would find it appropriate if some of these issues could be covered in talks like: - b-tagging performance at the LHC and measurements/commissioning with early data (discussion the methods, its expected performance, comp. to Tevatron (?), how to establish the b-tag perf. with early data, e.g. use ttbar and other channels) - Tau identification at the LHC and measurements with early data (dto., methods, expected perf., comp Tevatron, how to measure and establish tau tagging with early data.... Z --> tau tau. As a bare minimum one such talk must be given, which could have a title: "Commissioning of particle ID with early LHC data" (this could then also include Z--ee or mumu as add. calibration signatures). In addition, at present we have no talk to discuss the LHC propects on el.weak precision measurements (m_W, M_top,....., gauge couplings) The appropriate place would be in the SM session. To accomodate more talks, I would prefer to start after the break with the W mass talk from the TeV (most important), combine the following two (provided that W/Z + jet production is discussed before the coffee break by an experimentalist from the Tevatron, talk 2 in Michelangelos list) in one talk and add (shorter) LHC talks. Schedule could look like: 4:30 - 5:00 W mass measurement at the Tevatron 5:00 - 5:30 W/Z properties and diboson production at the Tevatron 5:30 - 5:50 Commissioning of particle ID with early LHC data 5:50 - 6:10 Prospects for el.weak precision measurements at the LHC (maybe the third talk could also be moved to Wed. morning, if we want to keep 30 min). QCD and Partons ------------------------ - first talks should be given by a HERA speaker - I agree to call the last talk: Heavy Ion physics at the LHC (incl. ATLAS and CMS) - I am not sure that all talks should have the same lenghts.... some could be shorter to make room for add. talks (along the lines on exp. aspects as mentioned above) b physics (Thursday) ---------------------------- - for once I disagree with Darien and would prefer to have a general review talk on b physics at e+e- colliders (status and future plans) - make ATLAS and CMS contributions more explicit --> B physics prospects at the LHC (although I think the talks should be given by an LHCb speaker) New Phenomena ---------------------- - I like the talk on SUSY constraints (should in my opinion be given by a theorist) LHC Experiment Status ------------------------------- - I would prefer if the "Early Physics" would not be discussed twice (ATLAS and CMS) and would like to propose: - Commissioning of CMS (or ATLAS) and prospects for Early SM physics at the LHC; CMS (ATLAS) speaker The physics discussion should cover both experiments; - Commissioning of ATLAS (or CMS) and prospects for Early Discovery Physics at the LHC; ATLAS (CMS) speaker The physics discussion should cover both experiments; Higgs -------- - I agree with the proposal by theorists on not restricting the BSM Higgs to the MSSM. - could the Tevatron talks, SM and BSM be merged into one?? or maybe two shorter 20 min each talks. Saturday morning: ------------------------ - I support the proposal of Mike Tuts: 9:00 - 9:45 Status of the LHC and plans for sLHC 9:45 - 10:30 Upgrade plans for LHC experiments - I clearly prefer to have only ONE concluding talk of the type "Conference summary and perspectives" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- I guess that we discuss / propose names once the layout of the talks is finalized.
