The Excellence in Detector and Instrumentation Technologies (EDIT) symposium was created to ensure that young researchers entering the field of high energy physics today get the hands-on experience with detector technology they need to successfully further their careers.<\/p>\n

The EDIT symposium is geared towards researchers in their graduate studies or in their first year as a postdoc, seeking to acquire a deeper knowledge of the physics of detectors and instrumentation technologies and how they are used.<\/p>\n

This goal is achieved by providing a diversified program that integrates topical academic courses with hands-on laboratory experience. The 2 week course allows for a deep study of a set of important classes of detectors – photodetectors, solid state silicon tracking, neutrino detection (with an emphasis on liquid argon detectors) and beam tests of Cherenkov, MWPC, lead glass calorimetry and scintillation counters.<\/p>\n

The practice-oriented approach of the symposium will be particularly profitable for physicists with limited hardware experience, as they can explore the performance and limitations of the technologies which are used in state-of-the-art experiments.<\/p>\n
